The BU16 Thunders United andBU17 Texas Rush 92/93 both won Gold at the US Youth Soccer President’s Cup National Championships on Sunday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee while the U15 Texas Rush 94/95 took Silver.
Texas Rush 94/95 fell behind 2-0 to Sagebrush United SC (NV) before Juan Canizales (40th minute) and Michael Perales (43rd minute) pulled Texas Rush 94/95 even with back to back goals just before half time. Six minutes into the second half Sagebrush United regained the lead 3-2. Francisco Cisneros found the back of the net for Texas Rush 94/95 in the 77th minute to close the gap but it was not enough to turn the tide in the high scoring game that saw Texas Rush 94/95 come up short 5-3. Michael Perales (4 goals over the weekend) earned Top Scorer honors in the U15 age group.
Defending champion Thunders United faced off against Idaho Nike Rush (ID) on Thursday and came out on the short end falling 0-1. On Sunday Thunders United got a second crack at Idaho Nike Rush (ID) in the championship game and used goals by Juan Garcia (20th minute) and Alan Cortinas (52nd minute) to shut out Idaho Nike Rush (ID) 2-0 and claim back to back National Championships. Alan Cortinas (4 goals over the weekend) earned Top Scorer honors in the U16 age group.
The championship game in the Under 17 age group pitted Texas Rush 92/93 against So Cal Rush 92 Nike (CA-S) in a rematch of their Thursday game in which So Cal Rush 92 Nike (CA-S)prevailed 1-0. Neither teams were able to capitalize on opportunities in the first half and were deadlocked 0-0 at the break. A strike by Texas Rush 92/93's Zach Gibson (51st minute) that found the back of the net and a strong defensive performance through out the game proved to be enough to secure a 1-0 victory and the U17 President's Cup National Championship.
